FACILITY

In 2008, the Board of Directors unanimously voted to begin funding allocation, design and logistical planning for an exciting new construction project that will enable the Institute to expand its English-teaching services. Architect Fritz Benjamin has been commissioned to design a new classroom wing that will provide 8 new classrooms, along with Academic & Accounting offices.

Mr. Benjamin also designed and oversaw construction of the 1997 12-classroom addition building. His involvement will ensure continuity in both style and usability of available space. In order to maximize teaching space, the old Auditorium will be razed to make way for the new classroom wing. Activities that were once held in the Auditorium will be held in the new building, while musical concerts will be held in the courtyard and also the Grand Hall.

CLASSROOMS. Over the course of many decades, the Institute's campus has undergone numerous changes. The original building housed classrooms, adminstrative offices and the teacher's lounge. It is still in use today, though in a more limited capacity. In 1997, a new wing of 12 classrooms was completed, greatly expanding the Institute's student capacity. As mentioned above, the Institute is embarking on a new classroom expansion in 2008, with completion scheduled for 2009.

COMPUTER LAB. In 2006, President of the Board Mrs. Patricia Convery helped implement the wishes of the board to install a state-of-the-art computer lab at the Institute. This decision rose in great part to the requirements for SAT and TOEFL Testing, which were eliminating all paper-based tests in favor of electronic (computer) testing. The Institute rose to the challenge, and now has a testing lab with 25 computers.

MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. LIBRARY. Haiti's largest collection of English-language books for the public is housed in the Institute's Martin Luther King, Jr. Library. Its holdings also include French and Creole books. A non-circulating collection of American and Haitian newspapers and periodicals comprises the reference library. Special collections on Martin Luther King, Jr. and Haiti are available for use by local and visiting scholars. Every effort is being made to keep the Institute up-to-date with technological advances. Proposed services include: on-line computer-searching capability and an augmented reference collection to provide additional research materials for both Haitian and international academics as well as professionals.

LA BUVETTE SNACK BAR. No campus worthy of calling itself a "campus" would be complete without somewhere to grab a quick bite to eat. The Institute's Snack Bar, La Buvette, offers pies, patés, cookies, sandwiches, and a wide variety of soft drinks at an affordable price.

PARKING. The courtyard inside the Institute has a very limited amount of parking that is reserved for faculty, staff and administrative personnel. Outside street parking is available for students with cars, motorcycles and bicycles.

HOURS OF OPERATION. The Institute is open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. six days a week.
